From Illmatic to Stillmatic: The Remixes is an extended play album by Nas. ![]() Nas I Am is the third studio album by American rapper Nas, released on April 6, 1999 by Columbia Records. Following the commercial and critical success of 1996s It Was Written, Nas put to work on a double album that merged the styles of his first two albums and detailed entire aspects of his life. Although he was able to use most songs, other songs that would have made I Am a double album leaked onto the internet in MP3 format, forcing him to record new material for two separate single-disc releases. The album debuted at number 1 on the Billboard 200, selling over 470,000 copies in its first week of sales. I Am would later be certified double platinum in the United States, making it Nas second best-selling release behind It Was Written. Released on April 28, 1998, it is the only album released during his lifetime. The album peaked at 5 on the Billboard 200 charts and 1 on the Top RB Albums chart for two weeks. It was nominated for Best Rap Album at the 1999 Grammy Awards, but lost to Jay-Zs Vol. Hard Knock Life. It was also the first solo Latin hip hop record to go Platinum. Hell On Earth (Explicit) Mobb Deep Hell on Earth is the third studio album by East Coast hip hop duo Mobb Deep, which was first released on November 19, 1996, on Loud and RCA Records. The album is largely a continuation of Mobb Deeps previous album, the critically acclaimed The Infamous. The album is produced by Mobb Deep and also features guest appearances by emcees Nas, Raekwon, Method Man, and frequent collaborator Big Noyd. The album stands out for its acclaimed singles G.O.D. Pt. III and Hell on Earth, as well as Drop a Gem on Em, a response to 2Pacs diss track Hit Em Up. A promotional single, Still Shinin, was released earlier that year and later added to the album. The album, one of the earliest enhanced CDs, also contains an additional track that at the time, had to be unlocked with the use of a computer. Ironman Ghostface Killah Ironman is the debut solo album by American rapper Ghostface Killah, released on October 18, 1996, by Epic Records. The albums music draws prominently on blaxploitation films and soul samples. More so than on other solo debuts from the groups members, Ironman contains references to the Nation of Gods and Earths. It was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America Many music critics have praised the album for Ghostface Killahs imaginative lyricism and RZAs production style, with some revering it as one of the greatest Wu-Tang solo albums.
